Women Food and God

Shockingly, I don't watch Oprah. It's not that I don't admire her or that I have never watched her show or have never read her magazine I'm just not a daytime T.V. person. Oprah is power however, I know first hand the power of that woman. I work as a makeup artist for a very prestigious cosmetic company in a very prestigious department store, and when Oprah speaks everyone listens. If she mentions a scrub for the body, you will have hundreds of women calling, stopping by and demanding that particular product. They want it yesterday. The power of Oprah is awesome. It's just that my daytime work doesn't allow me the time off to watch her show. I know! Outrageous! I could program my T.V. to catch up on her show but, well sometimes it is all too much to remember.
When my daughter called me from Texas and told me about the show she watched and mentioned this book. I took action. Well to be truthful my husband took action. He called the bookstore and had the book reserved and picked it up for me the next day.
Sweet man, I know.
I have it in my pretty medium sized hands right now. My daughter Micah, is still trying to find it. Hunting down every book store in Austin, Texas. He! He! Sometimes experience over youth still wins. The book is Women Food And God. (An Unexpected Path to Almost Everything) by Geneen Roth. Micah said the program was wonderful. She said the author of the book made Oprah cry. I haven't watched the program but anything that makes Oprah even tear up has gotta be good. I'll let you know.
What I do know is that women have this on going love/hate relationship with food. We love to eat, we hate to eat. Some of us hate to eat the foods that are good for us. Some of us will only eat the foods that are good for us. Some women hate woman who will only eat foods that are good for us. It is very complex. The reason I know so much about women is that for the past 20 some odd years I have been a sort of Bartender for women. The makeup Bar. When I do a makeover on a woman we bond. When women bond we talk. A lot! We talk about life, love, death, health, children, you name it we talk about it. You will find a lot of musing about women on this blog. So with book in hand I am off to read about women. Love the title. Stay tuned for my book review...or rush out to get it, if you can find any left on the shelves.
With much happiness,
Bev
